Septima Women's Health & Lifestyle is a Seattle-based menopause and midlife transition clinic providing evidence-based medicine, in-depth appointments and a community of women going through this transition together. Our mission is that every patient at Septima feels heard, empowered and renewed.
The menopause transition can begin as early as the mid-30s and symptoms can last into the 60s and beyond. Whether you're just starting to notice changes in perimenopause or are well into postmenopause, Septima supports women through every phase of this transition.
The entire transition, from perimenopause through menopause to postmenopause, deserves more time, listening and education than a standard appointment allows. Every part of Septima is designed around that idea.
Care grounded in current guidelines and research from menopause hormone therapy (MHT) to non-hormonal options and preventative medicine. Every appointment includes time to walk through the research and reasoning behind your options and to engage in shared decision making.
Extended appointments allow the time to fully understand your history, symptoms and questions so your plan is built specifically for you.
Septima aims to host educational and social events to create a network of women navigating the same transition together. Women should not have to go through this journey alone.
You will see the same provider at every visit. This continuity of care helps build a strong patient-provider relationship.
Treating symptoms does more than provide comfort. It helps women stay engaged in their work, relationships and exercise routines. It also improves quality of life and supports long-term health.
Septima means "the seventh" in Latin. Seven is a number that has marked feminine power across many traditions. Here, it is drawn from the Pleiades, which is the small, luminous star cluster the Greeks named the "Seven Sisters."
Around the world and across time, the Seven Sisters have signaled the turning of seasons and women uniting. That is the thread we borrowed: a gathering place for women and a beacon of light and information through a transition women can face together.
This is why the seven stars appear throughout Septima's brand and why community is built into the practice itself.
A whole-person approach to the entire transition, from perimenopause through menopause to postmenopause, tailored to your history, symptoms and goals. Appointments are available in person or via telehealth. In person is preferred for your first intake visit. Every visit includes 20 free follow-up messages with your provider, answered within 1–2 business days. Most patients find their needs are fully met with an intake visit plus 2–4 follow-ups spaced 4–8 weeks apart, though this varies by individual.
Lab work, pathology, and pap smears are billed separately from visit prices.
A comprehensive first visit covering your full history, symptoms and goals with time for education. A 90-minute visit is recommended, however, a 60-minute option is available for patients with tighter time or budget constraints.
A shorter visit to adjust your plan, review labs or check in as your symptoms and needs evolve.
More time for a deeper check-in, which is useful when there is more to work through than a standard follow-up allows.
Your yearly wellness visit. Follow-up discussion about MHT or non-hormonal options included. A pap smear can be performed if needed, billed separately.
A focused visit for a specific, time-sensitive concern: postmenopausal bleeding, a suspected UTI or vaginitis. Established patients only, new patients should book an Initial Intake Consultation.
A dedicated visit to discuss IUD options, insertion, removal or endometrial biopsy. Established patients only, new patients should book an Initial Intake Consultation.
Procedure fee only. The IUD device itself is billed separately at its wholesale cost.
Standalone removal, no reinsertion.
Removal and a new device placed in the same visit, priced as a bundle. New device billed separately at wholesale cost.
In-office tissue sampling. Pathology lab processing is billed separately by the lab.
Every visit includes one month of free access to Septima's educational library: instructional strength-training videos created by Alison Marra, a personal trainer with 20 years of experience and a GGS Menopause Coach, plus a full collection of information about the menopause transition.
Great care is only part of it. You'll also gain access to a community.
Septima was designed to feel warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in. Bright colors, soft textures and natural light create a haven for women to be relaxed and heard.
Heather has practiced as a Physician Associate for 15 years. She worked in OB/GYN for the past 6 years and surgical specialties before that. Over those years, she saw a clear need: women going through the menopause transition and beyond deserve to be heard, kept informed with up-to-date information and supported through their journey.
Heather is deeply passionate about educating women on the menopause transition and getting patients on the right treatment regimen. Heather holds a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP) credential and she is also a member of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH). Above all, she is a firm believer that care should be evidence-based and built on a strong patient–provider relationship that includes active listening and shared decision making.
As a result, Septima was created: a practice built to support, educate and unite women through the menopause transition and beyond.
Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from Rocky Mountain College.
Heather works in collaboration with Jodie Wohl MD. Dr. Wohl is a physician trained at Columbia University and the University of Washington with 40 years of experience in family practice and women's health.
Perimenopause is the transition period before menopause. It is a time of hormonal chaos, when the ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone at fluctuating rates as the overall levels slowly decline. It's often described as "puberty in reverse." It can begin as early as the mid-to-late 30s, typically starts in the 40s and usually lasts 4–10 years before menopause itself. Some of the most common symptoms are period irregularity, hot flushes, sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, brain fog and joint pain. However, there are around 70 symptoms total, which can be vague and range from mild to severe.
Perimenopause is the transitional stage with fluctuating hormones and irregular cycles. Menopause is marked retroactively, after 12 consecutive months without a period, typically around age 51. Postmenopause refers to the years that follow menopause when estrogen and progesterone levels remain low and stable.
Treating symptoms is about more than short-term relief. It supports long-term health, vitality and quality of life. Managing symptoms well can help women stay engaged in the workforce or present in their relationships and daily life. Practically, this can look like better sleep so women can function well during the day, decreased joint pain so women can keep exercising and improved mood for a better overall quality of life. Treating this transition thoughtfully is an investment in one's long-term health and longevity, not just symptom relief.
MSCP stands for Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, a credential from The Menopause Society (formerly NAMS) that recognizes clinicians who have demonstrated specialized competency in evidence-based menopause care.
Shared decision making is a collaborative approach where you and your provider work together to choose a care plan, combining medical evidence and your provider's expertise with your personal values, preferences and goals. Rather than being handed a recommendation, you're given the time and information to understand your options and make an informed choice together.
Heather is a solo provider, so every visit is with her personally. She aims to be available for appointments most business days, either in person or via telehealth, with the exception of vacation time and holidays. Knowing many of her prospective patients have busy schedules, she plans to offer some early-start and late-ending clinic days. Check when Heather is available for appointments.
Every visit at Septima is designed to support you well beyond the appointment itself. You'll receive 20 free follow-up messages with Heather so you have a way to ask clarifying questions or share updates as you navigate your care. You'll also get one month of free access to Septima's educational library, including instructional strength-training videos created by Alison Marra and a full library of information about the menopause transition. Care doesn't end when the appointment does. Septima is built for patients to feel genuinely supported throughout their journey.
One in two women over the age of 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. The majority of hip fractures occur in women. Hip and spine fractures can be genuinely debilitating, affecting mobility and independence. Learning how to strength train safely and appropriately is one of the most effective, evidence-based ways to help protect bone health during and after the menopause transition. Heather is passionate about making sure patients receive proper education on strength training technique and Septima also maintains a referral list of personal trainers and exercise programs for patients who want additional hands-on support.
Every patient's journey is different. Most patients find their needs are fully met with an initial intake visit plus 2–4 follow-up visits spaced roughly 4–8 weeks apart. This gives enough time to see how your body responds to a treatment plan. Adjustments will be made along the way and your 20 free follow-up messages are available in between visits for anything that comes up.
Septima is only able to see patients who are physical residents of Washington state, in keeping with state licensure requirements. The practice is located in Seattle, but telehealth visits are available to patients located anywhere within Washington state, not just the Seattle area. Learn more about telehealth across Washington.
Septima is a direct-pay practice. Operating outside of insurance allows Heather to give every patient the appropriate time and care their visit deserves. Patients pay directly for visits rather than billing insurance. Visits are HSA/FSA eligible and a detailed superbill is provided at patient request for those who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurer.
Yes. Physician Associates are licensed to diagnose, treat and prescribe medication, working in collaboration with a physician. Heather is able to prescribe the full range of treatment options discussed at Septima including menopause hormone therapy (MHT), non-hormonal medications for symptom relief and treatment for related concerns such as vaginitis and urinary tract infections along with anything else that comes up in your care.
